Growing Hope Where the Land Is Dry
Project Slogan
Climate-Smart Agriculture for Resilient Refugee Communities
Project Duration
24 months (renewable annually)
Project Location
Kakuma Refugee Camp & Host Community Areas, Turkana West, Kenya
Target Group
-
Refugee and host community small-scale farmers, youth, and women-led households
Background & Rationale
Kakuma Refugee Camp faces severe climate challenges characterized by prolonged droughts, low rainfall, and poor soil fertility. These conditions significantly limit agricultural productivity, forcing communities to rely on imported food supplies that are often expensive, inconsistent, and nutritionally limited. As a result, food insecurity, malnutrition, and economic vulnerability persist, particularly among women and youth who depend on agriculture for survival.
The absence of climate-adapted farming knowledge, tools, and technologies further worsens the situation, leaving farmers ill-equipped to manage climate risks or adopt sustainable practices.
